Sarah Winkel serves as the Project Director at Project SUN.
She graduated from Illinois State University in 2002 with a Recreation and Park Administration degree. She began working Full-Time as a Recreation Supervisor at Bourbonnais Township Park District after completing a summer internship there. During her 20-year career at the Park District, Sarah held various roles. For five years, she worked with youth and seniors and planned trips. She started the Before and After School program, School Break Days, and many others during that time. In June of 2007, she became the Exploration Station's General Manager. Following her time as the General Manager, she was promoted to Deputy Director at the Park District, which involved administrative duties and overseeing the Recreation Department. Sarah also served as the Park District's Safety Coordinator.
Over those 20 years at the Park District, she learned the importance of strong relationships within our community. Partnerships were a must. Being not only a resource to our community but also working with others to enrich the quality of life for those in the community is crucial.
She is grateful for the time spent on various boards and committees in the community. She is passionate about offering our families tools to help them flourish.
Sarah was born and raised in Clifton, IL, attending and graduating from Clifton Central. She lives in Bourbonnais with her partner and a 6-year-old daughter. They enjoy spending time outside and doing everything our community offers.
